Obituary penned by Trudie Seybold
Gertrude Russell Seybold, nee Klose passed away April 7, 2019, known as Trudie. She was married to her late husband, Kurt and is survived by her son, Eddie Russell and wife Lori, granddaughter: Nicole, husband Michael Howe, great-grandchildren: Quade, Alton, granddaughter: Kelly and husband Michael Rothman, great-grandchildren: Isabella and Henry. Grandchildren: Lacy, James, and Chris Russell, great-grandchildren: Jillian and Christopher Brian. Daughter in law Susan Russell. Her voice prodigy, Luciano Moral, stepdaughter Sandy. , James Barbour Russell lV, known as Jay, her eldest son passed away in 2003
Trudie spent most of her life teaching music. She graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, taught choral and vocal music for 25 years. She was well known as a choral and voice teacher in Norfolk, VA and Miami, FL. She moved to Philadelphia, with her voice prodigy, Luciano Moral who was awarded a scholarship to the Curtis Institute and Julliard and the Academy of Vocal Arts. Trudie, was the choral director and attended Temple University where she received her Master’s.
In 1975, she returned to Cincinnati and took over her parents’ restaurant, Forest View Gardens in Monfort Heights. Her love to cook, made FVG a very popular restaurant. With her husband she provided a haven for many young aspiring opera singers who waited on tables and sang. They operated the restaurant for 26 years.
Trudie was active in the Clifton Music Club, Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Music Fraternity, Honorary Member of the Opera Board and Historian of the MacDowell Society of Cincinnati. Trudie received the distinguished Alumni Award from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1983. Trudie and her husband Kurt established a Scholarship fund at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music for opera singers governed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the University of Cincinnati to the Seybold Russell Scholarship Fund, External Relations Office, P.O. Box 210003 Cincinnati, OH 45221-0003
A celebration of life will be held at Evergreen Retirement Community in the Auditorium on Sunday, May 5th at 1pm. CCM and Cincinnati Opera are scheduling a Memorial service this summer.
