Janice M. Wittig

d. December 6, 2021

WITTIG, Janice M. (nee Weiler). Beloved wife of Mark E. Wittig. Dear sister of Nancy (Wilfried) Horper and Ann (Scott) Beck. Dear aunt of Justin (Alexis) Beck and Jaime (Daniel) Lyle. Great-aunt of Luca, Rosalie and Jack. Sister-in-law of Shelly Hutchinson and Candi Wittig. Passed away December 6, 2021 at the age of 66.

Our dear sister Janice was born in the mid-50’s to Betty & Richard Weiler. She was a creative, free-spirited person with an incredible wit. She loved to camp and was our dad’s fishing companion on many occasions. She was a devoted daughter and sister, especially after our dad died very young while she was in her mid-teens. She was a self-proclaimed flower child during the 60’s. She loved music, especially The Monkees (Davy Jones), The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles and introduced Justin and Jaime to all these great groups and more giving them a love for music too.

Janice had 2 short marriages before she met and married her soulmate and lifelong companion Mark Wittig. Mark became her loving, compassionate, and devoted caregiver during the past several years of her illness.

When she was younger Janice worked as a cashier, in food prep, and waitressing at various restaurants including Ponderosa where she met Mark. Her favorite job was babysitting Justin and Jaime. She was an extraordinary caregiver and taught them many things.

Humor and wit were her strong points in addition to her huge heart and love for animals. Janice and Mark rescued many animals during her lifetime giving them loving homes and better care than she gave herself. She has rejoined all of the pets she has lost along the way which are too numerous to mention, although I’m sure she could list each one of them.

Janice’s creativity will also be missed. She loved to compose funny, inappropriate poems which she included on the many cards and notes she blessed us with. Her passing has left a deep hole in our hearts but she will be remembered with a smile for all the joy, love, and laughter she brought to our lives.

A brief visitation will be held on Monday, December 13th from 5-7 pm at Hodapp Funeral Home on Vine Street in Carthage.  A service will follow the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, a donation for animals in need would be a great way to honor her. League for Animal Welfare is an option she would have liked.
