Alice Lorraine Wiener (nee Allred), age 90, passed away on January 17, 2013 in Mason, Ohio. Married in November, 1950, she was the devoted wife of Paul E. Wiener for 62 years, helping him in his ministries in Ohio and Michigan. Besides her husband, she leaves behind three children: Beth Brokaw of Louisville, Kentucky; Blake Wiener of Schaumburg, Illinois; and Rebecca Ballinger (Rusty) of Independence, Kentucky; and three grandchildren: Rachel Kieltyka (Joseph), Quinn Ballinger, and Tess Ballinger. Alice led a life of faithful Christian service. After graduating from Cincinnati Bible Seminary, she organized the youth ministry at First Christian Church in Springfield, Ohio, and worked as secretary to the minister. As a housewife and mother of three she still found time to teach Bible School, lead music for children’s church, and speak at women’s retreats. In Cincinnati, Ohio, she served as an editor and writer at Standard Publishing Company, and then as a secretary at White Oak Christian Church. At First Christian Church in Canton, Ohio she was secretary to the senior minister and office manager; she was also a much loved teacher of the Dorcas Class. In all her work in and out of the home, Alice exemplified the kind humility and patient service of Jesus Christ. She found time each day for prayer and Bible study. She served her family with love and devotion, working sacrificially to see her children through college. She enjoyed sharing with others as well, welcoming missionaries and friends into her home for meals and overnight visits Music was an inspiration to Alice throughout her life. She played the piano and sang as a soloist, in church choirs, and in various groups throughout her lifetime, including the Mother Singers of Canton Ohio and the Ambassadors of Mason Christian Village. She also enjoyed live musical performance, especially the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Alice’s patience kindness, honesty, and quiet strength have nutured many hearts. We are so thankful that God blessed us with her presence for ninety years.
