Allan Woodhouse, Christian Gentleman, Devoted, Loving Husband and Father, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday.
Born in Springfield OH in 1933, he was a music prodigy. Allan began playing mass at St Raphael at age 12. He was awarded a scholarship to the Athenaeum, received his MA in Gregorian Chant, and pursued a PhD at CCM. He met his wife Nancy of 60 years while he was the Music Director at Annunciation. Allan enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany where he was also the organist at the army chapel. He married Nancy in Frankfurt in 1957. Returning a 1st Lieutenant, he was the Music Director at St Martin of Tours, St Aloysius, and St Jude’s for over 25 years. He also taught at UC and McAuley.
Given his zest for life, he always strove for more. He owned and operated farms in IN and OH. He ran Woodhouse & Associates Real Estate for three decades. He was an appraiser for the Tri-state area until he was 80 years old. He was always generous to his employees.
Allan was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved Walloon Lake, the land, birch trees, blue birds, all creatures great and small and his dog Ellie. He was a lifetime supporter of Catholic Charities.
Allan is survived by his wife Nancy, children Mike (Joni), Julie Noonan (Kevin), Douglas (Laurie), Susan, and grandchildren Jon, Ben, Ryan (Lisa), Robbie, Emily, Zak, and Conor; his siblings Jerry (Christine), Connie Haacke (Joe); and his beloved Maltese Ellie. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret.
He donated his body to UC. Donations in lieu of flowers to P.A.W.S. of Dearborn County or the Society of St Vincent DePaul. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held at St Peters in Chains Cathedral on March 24 at 11.30am.
