MARTIN, Allan R. Beloved husband of the late Mary Jane (nee Newton). Loving father of Sandra Hawley. Dear grandfather of Sarah Cline. Loving brother of Marion Hunley. Allan attended Hartwell High School where he set city pole vault records that stood for 20 years. After high school he attended U.C. where he won numerous weight lifting and physique titles including "Mr. Cincinnati" and "Mr. Ohio" as well as being a member of the of their Hand Balancing Team. After U.C. he attended the Iowa Preflight School where he set records in gymnastics and track as well as a shotput title. Allan then became a blimp pilot in the Navy and served in South America. While in the Navy he was awarded the "Best Athlete Award" of the South Atlantic Fleet. He would eventually retire from the Navy as a Lt. Commander and returned home to become the vice president of the Fox Paper Company. Outside of his work, Allan judged many weightlifting and archery events and wrote some romantic verse being published with the book "In the Quiet of the Night". He is also a member of the Archery Hall of Fame. Passed away November 21, 2014 at age 93. Visitation to be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 7401 Vine St., Carthage, Monday from 4:30-7:30 PM with funeral service Tuesday at 9 AM at the funeral home.
