SAWTELLE, Allan W., died on October 23 at the Maple Knoll Community in Springdale, OH. Allan was born on May 30, 1916 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Elmer S. and Clara (Falkinburg) Sawtelle. He has outlived two older sisters, Martha Michael and Emily Kiefer. He grew up in the Hartwell neighborhood of Cincinnati, and was a proud alumnus of Hartwell High School. As an engineering student at UC, Allan met the love of his life, Bobbie Irion. After his graduation in June they were married on August 6, 1939. During WW2 he worked for Tool Steel (now Xtek) a war industry until he was drafted into the Navy, where he served until its end. The family moved to Wyoming OH in 1945. Allan began a small business to make and sell Rigid Live Centers. He was very active at Hartwell United Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts in Hartwell and Wyoming. He served on the Board of Directors of Tool Steel Gear & Pinion and Sawbrook Steel Casting. He was very active in the Valley Interfaith Food and Clothing Center. Allan and Bobbie were leaders in the outdoor activities of the Miami Group Sierra Club until she suffered a stroke in 2000. Allan and Bobbie celebrated 75 years of marriage on August 6, 2014, before she passed January 23 of this year. They leave one son, Rev. Roger A. Sawtelle and his wife Ann, of Lowell, MA; two daughters-in-law, Mary Allen Sawtelle of Burke, VA, and Iva Sawtelle of Trenton, OH. Also 5 grandchildren, Mara Riley, Jeanne Petrangelo, Sarah Sawtelle, Scott Sawtelle, and Christopher Sawtelle and 5 great-grandchildren. They also have many nephews and nieces. Three other sons, Timothy I., Jeffrey S., and Buzz (Allan E.) have died. Allan's funeral will be held at his home church, Hartwell United Methodist Church, 140 Parkway in Cincinnati, 45216 on Saturday, November 14 at 10:00 am followed by burial at Spring Grove Cemetery.
