Andrew John Bierkan

July 29, 1949 — March 7, 2025

Andrew John Bierkan, age 75, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 7. 2025. Andrew is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene, his three sons, Matthew (Rachel), Nathan (Laura) and Mark (Meggie), his six grandchildren, Brayden, Joel, Lilliana, Chase, Logan and Joey, and his siblings, Sue (Steve) Deming, Ross Bierkan, Holly Platter and Deb (Roberta) Burgess. He is preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Dorothy Bierkan of Farmington, Connecticut.

After graduating Farmington High School in 1967, Andrew attended Bates College in Maine and then moved on to graduate school at Hartford Seminary where he graduated in 1974 with a Masters of Divinity. Andrew was an ordained pastor for over 50 years serving United Church of Christ congregations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio and Kentucky.

The heart of Andrew Bierkan was service. He spent time ministering to his church communities while also leading local and national United Church of Christ Church and Ministry Committees, spearheading Retired Minister Outreach for the UCC, serving on the board for the Elon Homes for Children, working as hospital chaplain, volunteering as a firefighter in Sutton, Massachusetts and even fitting and selling ski boots at the Perfect North Slopes Ski Shop.

Andrew had a gift for welcoming others and for making people feel understood. He loved gathering with family especially at the lake or at the ocean. He regularly invited friends and acquaintances to join in boating excursions and ski vacations. Andrew had a passion for all things New England including lighthouses, boats, lobster rolls and Boston sports teams. He encouraged others to join him in enjoying experiences while on church trips and other adventures.

Andrew’s life and legacy will be celebrated on Thursday, March 20 at Lakeview United Church of Christ, 8639 Columbia Road, Maineville, OH 45039, with a visitation from 3:30-5:00 and a Memorial Service from 5:00-6:00.
