Anthony Dominick Basta

Anthony “Tony” Dominick Basta, age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, surrounded by family. Tony was a devoted husband and father, loving grandfather, and passionate sports fan, leaving a legacy of love and perseverance. 

Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace; children Theresa (Mark) Piper, Dominic (Daniel) Marques-Basta; grandchildren Brady and Aidan Piper; nieces Linda Corriveau, Lorraine Baird, Melissa Arondoski; nephews Vincent and Breeze Rusnell.

Born in Detroit and a graduate of St. Philip Neri High School, Tony dedicated nearly 30 years to the Detroit News as a District Manager. He later joined Ford Motor Company, where he worked for another decade before retiring in 2007. At that time, Tony and Grace relocated to Liberty Township, OH to be closer to their grandchildren. 

His love for sports was more than just a pastime, it was a cherished connection he shared with friends and family, especially his beloved grandsons. Cheering them on in football and baseball over the years brought him immeasurable joy; as did watching his favorite teams, Notre Dame and the NY Yankees. 

Known for his tireless work ethic and deep devotion to his family, Tony was a social and charismatic person with a unique ability to inspire warmth and leave a lasting impression on all who knew him. Tony’s kindness touched countless lives, and his memory will be forever treasured by those fortunate enough to call him family or friend. 

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Filomena and his siblings: Mary, Rose, Vincent, Lena, Antoinette, Joseph, Frances, and Michael.

A celebration of life will be held in Michigan in June, details to follow.
