It is with great sadness that the family of Arlene Castner announces her passing on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at the age of 91. Arlene was born August 16, 1933, in Reading to Alverna (Roth) and Edward Adleta, and lived most of her life in her home on Butler Warren Road in West Chester, Ohio. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Arlene will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, the warmth she brought to every gathering, and the embodiment of a Christ-like existence in her devotion to her faith. Arlene almost made the decision to devote her entire life to the church by taking the vows to become a nun but chose instead to be a loving wife to William Herbert Castner, who passed in October 1995. Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, her brothers Edward (Barbara), Robert (Shirley), Thomas (Margaret), Charles, and Paul (Pat) Adleta, sister Rosemary Adleta, and daughter-in-law, Karen. In life, Arlene enjoyed visiting Indian Lake Cottage and participating in her clubs, particularly the Red Hatters and her Mugs Club, a group of friends who met monthly for more than 50 years. She loved college basketball and the NCAA March Madness Tournament, a true, ardent supporter of her beloved Cincinnati Bearcats. Those close to her may remember her impressive collection of owl memorabilia. However, it was revealed in her later days that she didn’t love them as much as people thought she did, but so many people kept getting her them as gifts and her heart was too big to let anyone in on the lie. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and family, deeply missed by her surviving siblings, MaryAnn Amyx, Ronald (Diane) Adleta, Donnie (Fred Toner) Adleta, and sister-in-law Joan. Arlene also leaves behind her children, Daniel Castner, Renee Berger, Gary (Kathy) Castner, Steve (Delina) Castner, Keith Castner, Julie (Dan) Conley, and Brian (Andrea) Castner, along with a wealth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren too numerous to list. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 7th, 2024 at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Liberty Twp., OH 45044.
