Liberty Township, OH – Barry Wayne Thiel, 49, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 while scuba diving in the Virgin islands.
Loving husband of Renae (nee Shircliffe). Devoted father of Jacob and Josh. Beloved son of Carol Thiel (nee Lutz) of Melbourne, KY and the late Gregory Thiel. Dear brother of David Thiel (Judy) of Fort Thomas, KY and Lisa Nicholson (Greg) of Anderson, OH. Cherished uncle of Caitlyn, Kelsey, Eva, Graham, Camille, Ericka, Olivia, Jenna, Victoria, Sophia and Maria.
Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Road Liberty Township, Ohio Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am Friday at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Church 5720 Hamilton Mason Road Liberty Township, Ohio - followed by burial at Rose Hill Burial Park 2421 Princeton Road Hamilton, Ohio.

Barry was the Senior Managing Director for 13D Research, a global research firm that counts many of the world's largest and most successful money managers and thought leaders among its clientele. He was a writer and editor for the flagship publication “What I Learned This Week”. He was also the owner and Chief Executive officer of Continuous Improvement Solutions, a professional consultancy which researched and analyzed investments for Fortune – 500 firms.
In the early years of his career Barry specialized in air filtration. He was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for ESI International/ESI North, Vice President of Business Development for MPW Filtration Services Group and Vice President of Business Development for Total Filtration Services which is among the world's largest filter distributors.
Barry was the President (and previously, Vice President) of Liberty Township Parks Committee. He was a Board Member on the Liberty Township Board of Zoning Appeals. He was an active member of the GOP's Executive Committee. Barry served a four year term as Trustee & Chairman of Long Range Strategy Team for Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.
Barry was committed to serving others. He was appointed Leader of the CHCA Fathers Group for five consecutive terms guiding the group to being Godly leaders in the home, school, and community, with special outreach for widows and some of the most vulnerable people in Greater Cincinnati. He served Habitat for Humanity, devoting extensive volunteer hours in partner development, resource management, donor relations, and home construction.
Barry loved and preserved nature as a 30 year member of The Bobwhite Club in Claryville KY.
