Benjamin Lawrence, 91, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Ben was born May 1, 1929 in Southboro, MA. Beloved son of Edwin C. and Margaret A. Lawrence, Ben married Virginia E. Martin on August 24, 1952 in Barbourville, KY.
As a graduate of Princeton University in 1950 with a degree in chemical engineering, Ben enjoyed a 42-year career at Proctor & Gamble. He worked in product development and quality assurance on brands including Duncan Hines, Folger’s Coffee, and various health & beauty brands. Ben earned several patents during his career. His love for language gave him work experience around the world. He retired in 1992 as Associate Director of Corporate Quality Assurance. Ben served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, working in research while stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA.
Ben is survived by Virginia, his wife of 68 loving years; his sister Bettie L. Flash of Chapel Hill, NC; and two children, Stephen (Becky) Lawrence of Troy, OH and Dr. Ann Lawrence (Jan Utrecht) of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren Hannah and Andrew Lawrence, and Elizabeth Utrecht; and one great-grandchild.
Ben was an avid fisherman, making yearly trips to Canada. He enjoyed sailing and raced for many years at Cowan Lake, competing nationally. A lover of classical music, Ben faithfully sang in the Northminster Presbyterian Church choir, served as church elder, Endowment founder, and as a Boy Scout leader. He also sang in the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, the Cincinnati Choral Society, and the Cincinnati Opera.
