BETTY CAROL NEWLAND

Betty Carol (Reid) Newland, beloved wife (59 years) of the late Bill Newland, devoted mother of Rick (Tisha), Dennis (Lisa), and Linda Newland, proud grandmother of Jamie Newland Prabucki (Ken) and Michael Newland (Hilary); Courtney, Stacey, Sarah, and Benjamin Newland, great-grandmother of Kaylee.  Born December 5, 1933. Entered into eternity November 14, 2014.

Betty was born December 5, 1933, in Decatur, Ohio, to the late Francis Truman and Gladys (Morgan) Reid. She was the youngest of four children raised in Georgetown, Ohio.  Betty attended school in Georgetown, where she met her husband, Bill.  Prior to their marriage, she worked for the Zumbiel Box Company and lived in Norwood.  After marrying Bill, Betty was a housewife and stay-at-home mom.  The family moved to Mason, Ohio, in the late 60s to be closer to Bill’s job.  After her children were all in school, she rejoined the workforce and retired from the Fotomat Company in Sharonville, Ohio.

Betty was a playful, fun-loving lady whose home was always open to her family, neighbors, and friends.  She was one of the Sherman Terrace moms who were blessed to love the neighborhood kids as her own, many times waking up to find the boys shooting pool or playing video games in her home, where they always knew they’d be welcome.  She frequently visited her friends and family in Georgetown and was especially fond of meeting friends each fall at the Brown County Fair.

Betty loved her family tremendously, proudly attending sports and school events for her children and grandchildren, often wearing clothing with their school and team logos.  She was a member of the Mason United Methodist Church for many years.  In her later years, she developed several serious health issues, but still kept her sweet spirit.  She was cared for in her final years by her daughter, Linda, an act of love that allowed her to remain in the family home as long as possible.  Her last month was spent in the care of Heritage Spring Care Center staff.

She was preceded in death by many loved ones including brother, Bobby Reid and infant son, Jeffery Wayne Newland.  In addition to her children and grandchildren, Betty is survived by her twin brother, Bill Reid (Jenny) of Georgetown; her sister, Florence Sams (Bill) of Tampa, Florida; sister-in-law Ruth Newland, of Georgetown; brother-in-law Jimmy Newland, of Hamersville; soon-to-be son-in-law Sam Hall and grandson-in-law, Derek Wynne.  She is also survived by several nephews and nieces, cousins, beloved neighbors, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd., West Chester, Thursday (11/20) at 11 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1 PM.
