Bruce Andrew Cottingham

January 6, 1935 — November 26, 2020

On Thursday, November 26, 2020, Bruce Andrew Cottingham, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 85.

Bruce was born on January 6, 1935 in Norwood, Ohio to Willard “Bill” and Carol Cottingham. After graduating from Norwood High School, he joined the Coast Guard, and then attended the Cincinnati Academy of Commercial Art, eventually starting his own graphic design company, Cottingham Industrial Advertising. On June 10, 1961, he married the love of his life Patricia Ann Standau and together they raised two sons, Daniel and Steven.

Bruce had a passion for art, and the walls of his home were covered in artwork by both himself and local artists.  His love of art, advertising, and the occasional beer spilled over to a passion for collecting pre-prohibition Cincinnati brewery memorabilia. Bruce could often be found behind the bar of the Green Hills family home of more than 50 years, where the walls were covered with his collection.

Another of Bruce’s favorite hobbies was fishing.  He always wore his “Got Fish?” hat and looked forward to his semiannual fishing trips to Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee with his son Steve. Bruce also loved dogs, and though he had not had his own in many years, he loved when Dan would bring his Lab, Henry, over for visits.

Bruce was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat, and his son Dan, along with his parents Willard and Carol. He is survived by his son Steve (Meg), daughter-in-law Janet, and his grandchildren Emily (Ryan), William, and Sara, and his grand-dogs Henry Blake, Nigel, and Dexter.

A memorial service will be held on December 26, 2020 from 1 PM to 3 PM at Hodapp Funeral Home 6041 Hamilton Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45224.  Masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cincinnati SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
