MEININGER, Charles J., beloved husband of Doris J. Whitaker Meininger and loving father of Rebeckah (Becky) Meininger Williams (Dale) and loving grandfather to Dale, Jr.
Charles was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1925 to Carl G. Meininger and Loretta H. Lepple Meininger. He married Doris Whitaker in 1954. Daughter Rebeckah was born in 1956.
He had a lifelong interest in boating. He built his own kayak at age 10. Later he built a 24 foot wooden inboard motor boat.
Charles enlisted in the Navy in 1943. After training, he serviced submarine torpedoes. He was posted in Hawaii and later in Guam. He served in the South Pacific the duration of the war.
After returning home, he continued his education at Ohio College of Applied Science and U.C. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Quality Assurance. He worked at L.P. Cotter Assoc. Archit-Draftsman. He began working for Taylor Wharton in 1963 as a trackwork design engineer-draftsman. He designed special trackwork for railroads and mass transit systems (domestic and foreign). Taylor Wharton was sold to L.B. Foster, they sold to Cogifer Inc., a French company, that was sold to ABC Rail, where he retired in 1992, after 29 years (all the same company).
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Carl and Loretta Meininger, his uncles Walter (Ann), Edwin (Stella), James Rosenbaum (Dora), who was the step-brother of Edward and Walter. Aunt Lucy Rosenbaum Amudson, half-sister of Carl, Walter, Edwin, and his daughter Shirley Johnson, also Martha Ann, who was Walter and Ann’s daughter.
Survivors: Susan Ferris, daughter of Walter and Ann Meininger (Richard) sons Matthew, Michael, Sarah Lou Denny (Denny) Daughter of James and Dora Rosenbaum.
Loretta H. Lepple Meininger’s parents George (Elizabeth) Lepple, brother Herbert (Edythe) Lepple, son Herbert, Jr., sister Elvira (Lepple) Cochran, son Herman Cochran, Jr., his wife (Bobbie Jean).
Survivors: Patricia Cochran Craig (Robert).
Charles passed away at Westover Retirement Community on Sunday March 8, 2015. Celebration of his life and memorial will be announced shortly at the convenience of the family.
