Christine Elizabeth Holmes, Adored Wife and Mother, Dies at 41Christine E. Holmes (née Oliver) was born on October 15
th, 1974 to Richard Oliver and Susan Oliver. As a kid, you could usually find her riding her bike, running, swimming, playing her trombone, looking out for her clumsy sister Jeanette, or digging in to the
Little House on the Prairie series. These passions led her to a busy schedule in high school, where she played tennis and was actively involved in the music program and her church youth group. She graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School in 1992.
At Miami University, even with a course load that included three majors and two minors, she kept excellent grades while still finding the time for fun. She majored in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs, Political Science, and History, with minors in English and French. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Christine graduated with honors in 1996.
A love of literature, history, and politics drew her to law school at the University of Cincinnati. There, she served as the executive editor for the law review. She graduated with honors in 1999.
As an attorney, she worked for the law firm of Graydon, Head, and Ritchey before finding her calling with the aviation group at General Electric. She served many roles with GE—legal, compliance, and sales—with a focus on selling engines for large jets like the Dreamliner. She often said that you could read about her work in the Wall Street Journal, but you would never see her name. Her true joy with GE was the opportunity to travel the world in service to the company. Her background in the student UN, her history degree with a focus on Islam, her fluency in French, and her deep understanding of Islamic culture made her uniquely equipped to serve her company in places like Morocco, France, and Italy. Most people who knew her might not realize how knowledgeable and supportive she was of diverse cultures and people.
On September 17
th, 2005, she married Rick Holmes. They shared a love of literature and politics and classical music, and he will always respect her intellect, sensitivity, great humor, and kind heart. She truly understood Rick, and that was part of why they clicked so well. Their daughter Elizabeth Anne Holmes was born November 7
th, 2006. Their son Ethan Richard Holmes followed on August 29
th, 2008. There are many reasons that we will never forget Christine—our wife and mother and sister and daughter and friend—but most of all, we will remember her wit, her energy, her generosity, her selflessness, and her love.
Our dear Christine lost her battle and moved on to a better place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Those of us who will miss her include her parents Richard and Susan Oliver, her sister Jeanette Oliver, her husband Rick Holmes, her children Elizabeth and Ethan Holmes, and far too many friends to count. That was the thing about Christine; to know her was to love her, and so many people called her friend. Please come celebrate her strength, passion, and selflessness at the Sycamore Presbyterian Church, located at 11800 Mason Rd in Cincinnati, OH 45249, on Monday, June 20, 2016. Visitation begins at 1pm, with service and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Christine can be made to the
Karen Wellington Foundation for Living with Breast Cancer.
