Clifford G. Born

April 16, 1933 — March 6, 2018

Clifford G. Born passed away March 6, 2018 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford M. Born, and his mother, Catherine (Schrohenloher) Born.
He was the beloved husband of Becky Born, devoted father/stepfather of Angi (Scott) Froendhoff, Theresa (Shawn) Murray, Rick (Debbie) Born, Kristi (Mark) Ficker, Gabe Botkins, Sanja (Benjamin) Bias, Jill (Jim) Messner, Kim (Nick) Hawes and loving Grandfather to 16 grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Barb ( the late George) Limke, Gil (Carol) Born, Nancy(Hank) Koch, Lori (Jim) Schwartz, Sister Janet Born O.S.F., Rick Born, Gene(Maureen) Born and Gerry (Kathy) Born and survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cliff was very respected by his students and colleagues. He was a modest man who will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he has touched. He encouraged many to pursue careers in the field of Radiation Oncology including 2 of his daughters, former students and acquaintances.
After growing up in College Hill and attending Xavier University for a short period he decided to enlist in the army where he dedicated two years to his country during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he moved to Pine Mountain, GA where he and an army buddy built and ran the KenCliff Motel. He decided to return home to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Cincinnati. While waiting for his “Q” clearance to work at Mound Laboratories he taught at Elder H.S. It was while working there he met his mentor and friend James G. Kereiakes who encouraged him to get his Master’s degree in Radiologic Physics at the University of Cincinnati. After graduation, he worked at The Christ Hospital from 1970 until 2000 as their Chief Medical Physicist. He was also a coordinator and instructor of the Cincinnati School of Radiation Therapy Technology from 1978 until 2000.
Cliff was involved in multiple scientific societies, including the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). He was president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the AAPM in 1980 and Co-Program Director for AAPM Summer School in 1986.
Where there was Cliff, there were people and joy and love.
For all of his accomplishments, Cliff will be most remembered by his friends, family, colleagues and patients. Cliff’s warmth and genuine affection and respect for everyone around him made the world a better place, a friendlier place, a kinder place. He had so much love and joy in his heart for everyone, and he loved showing it through one of his signature great big bear hugs. He loved his family fiercely and will always be close in their hearts and never far away.
There will be an opportunity for friends and family to celebrate Cliff's blessed life at St Susanna Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, Oh on Monday, March 12, 2018. A Memorial visitation will begin at 10:00 am until Mass at 11:00 a.m.
