Daniel P., beloved husband of Margaret (Wagner), cherished father of Mary Beth (Rich Riddle), Theresa (Darrell) Nicholson, Colleen (Greg) Hang, and Daniel (Abby). Best grandpa in the world to Kelsi (Drew) Topits, Kaitlyn, Dominic, Patrick, Benjamin, Jacob, and Gavin. Devoted brother to Martin (Donna), Ann (Tom) Freeman, and Mary (Dave) Osterberger. Much loved brother-in-law of Paul (Betty) Wagner, Mark (Zita) Plageman, Mike (Diane) Wagner, Bill (Vivian) Wagner, Francis (June) Wagner, Elizabeth (Augustine) Mandeng, Ken (Ann) Straub, Dave (Jane) Luebbering, Bernie (Kathy) Wagner, and Claude (Joyce) Wagner. Dan’s happy spirit will be missed by an extended family and many friends.
As a young man, Dan committed to serving others. After graduating from Villa Madonna College, and Xavier University, he accepted a position at Moeller High School, where he served for ten years as assistant athletic director, teacher, and coach. He founded the Post Kicking Contest, giving young men the opportunity to be assessed by college coaches. In those years he worked with his mentor and friend, Fr. Ulmer Kuhn, OFM, in the formation of the first non-territorial Catholic parish, the Community of Hope, and served as chairman of the Camp Marydale Board of Directors. Dan then embarked on a successful career in audio-visual equipment sales. He and his brother-in-law, Ken Straub, formed Audio Visual Network, producing media projects for major corporations. He coached youth soccer teams, color-cast St. Xavier High School soccer and football games on Warner Cable, and became parish council president. For years Dan was a faithful volunteer at the St. Francis Seraph soup kitchen and the Reggae Run. In 1999, he initiated and chaired the building of the first high school sponsored Habitat for Humanity home, organizing the students and staff at his alma mater, Roger Bacon. For several years, Dan served on the board of the Catholic Men’s Fellowship, annually producing “Answer the Call.” When his beloved friend, Fr. Jim Willig, died, Dan led in the creation of the Sacred Heart Prayer Garden at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. In his last career, he formed Daniel Gibbons & Assocs., and as a successful consultant on cutting edge technologies earned the title “Rain-maker.” After his final retirement from business, Dan joyfully volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Good Samaritan Hospital, and particularly enjoyed his time in the NICU comforting newborn babies. Dan loved opera, football, and family parties. He was an avid reader, with a special interest in Civil War history, and science, especially the science of flying.
