Davis L. Steele

May 10, 1931 — February 13, 2024

Davis Leonard Steele of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away in his home on February 13, 2024. He was born May 10, 1931 in Mount Hope, Alabama to Christian C. Steele and Ada (Woodruff) Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Ruth, John, Homer, Chris, Roe, Ralph, Ida Lee (Belle), Ruby, Tommy and Erlene.

Davis grew up on his parents' cotton farm where he was the youngest of 11 children. He was lovingly called "Top" by those who knew him well because his cotton top blond hair could be seen out in the fields. He graduated from Mount Hope high school in 1949 where he was a stand out athlete. He worked with some of his brothers in construction in Cincinnati before being drafted into the Army in 1950. Serving proudly during the Korean War. He was stationed mainly at Upper Heyford Air Force base in the United Kingdom. After his service to his country Dave settled in Cincinnati, OH and began his 52 year career with Ford Motor Company.

Not long after that Dave met the love of his life, Marcia Mae Combs, on the steps of the apartment building where they both lived at that time. Excited to begin their lives together they were married on October 5, 1958. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past October. They are proud parents of one son, Jeffrey, and grandparents of Christian and Kaelyn.

Davis loved the outdoors. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Marcia loved to travel and went on several trips with his niece Ann and her husband Bobby. Some of their favorites included fishing trips to Canada and a trip to Hawaii.

Dave and Marcia also enjoyed several Army reunions with Dave's Army buddies. He was also active with his UAW Local 863 retiree group from Ford in Sharonville. He was a member of Liberty Heights Church as far back as its Pisgah Heights days. But most of all his family meant more to him than anything else in this world.

Davis is survived by his wife, Marcia, son Jeffrey Davis Steele and wife Kendal; two grandchildren ~ Christian Davis Steele and wife Breanne and Kaelyn (Steele) Gilmour and husband Drew.
