Dianne (Nelson) Schneider, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 24th. She was born on February 8, 1936 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Elmer and Breta Nelson.
She grew up on a farm in Freedhem, MN, but her senior year of high school she moved with her family to Castro Valley, CA. A couple years later, with the help of a neighbor who happened to be a doctor, she moved to Cincinnati to study nursing. Shortly after moving to Cincinnati, she went to church at Walnut Hills Lutheran Church. After the service the pastor introduced her to Herbert Schneider on the steps outside the church. They were married three years later and had 67 wonderful years together.
Dianne decided that nursing wasn’t right for her, but she shared her kind and caring personality with the world in other ways. She loved being a homemaker and raising her children. Dianne and Herb were the co-sponsors of the senior high youth group at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. They took in a 15 year old foster son, and later took in a foreign exchange student from Bangkok, Thailand. They became very involved with the AFS (American Field Service) program and had many students from all over the world in their home for a weekend, a week, or longer. For over 50 years, Dianne was a member of the National T.T.T. Society, an organization that sends deserving young girls to camp.
Dianne loved to cook and sew. Over the years, there were many meals and cookouts with the kids from the senior high youth group and the AFS program. Whether sewing clothes for her children, grandchildren, neighbors, or volunteering her sewing skills for some organization, her sewing room was her happy place.
She had several jobs over the years, but the one she loved the most was being a cook for Madeira City Schools. She loved interacting with all the kids. Sometimes she would give someone a rounded scoop of mashed potatoes instead of a level scoop if she felt they needed a little extra. She still has a reputation for her yummy cookies that she made both at school and at home.
Whether it was travelling around the country or sitting at home, Dianne loved spending time with Herb, the love of her life.
Dianne is survived by her husband, Herbert P. Schneider, her two sons and daughter and their spouses, Paul and Tami Schneider, Doug and Mary Montgomery, Penny and Bill Jarvis; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by one grandson. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
