Doris Jean Surber

d. May 21, 2015

, Doris (née Smith) of Cincinnati, Ohio went home quickly and quietly on May 21, 2015. While she worked in retail sales over the years, Doris' most important job was wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She left this world while on a trip to the much loved family farm in Eubank, Kentucky with her husband, Charles. She was an extraordinary woman who mothered more people than the children who share her last name. She was an avid reader, remembered birthdays and anniversaries by sending carefully chosen cards, loved her church family, enjoyed her flowers, loved traveling with her sisters and was a joy to know. Doris was born and raised in Lockland, Ohio and spent most of her life on the west side of Cincinnati raising her daughters and sharing a blessed life with her beloved husband. She was quick to lend a hand, loved having a treat in her purse to give to a child, and loved the Lord with a quiet and observant spirit. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Charles F. Surber, daughters, Karen (Jeff) Casey of Franklin, Tennessee and Sandy (Carmen) Stumpo of Greenwood, Indiana. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Alison (Adam) Beasley, Rachel Gonzalez, Kristen Stumpo (Cody Barber), Mark Gonzalez, and Matthew and Nicholas Stumpo. She considered it a blessing to have loved her bonus grands- Shannon (Keith) Gabbard, Nate (Elizabeth) Casey, Lydia and Benjamin Casey. She treasured having seven great-grandchildren- Jordan, Mason, Hayden, and Dawson Beasley, Connor Barber, Sophia Gonzalez-Crothers, and Penelope Casey.
She is survived by two sisters- Alma Shelton and Judith (Ken) Johnson and two brothers- Ronald (Betty) Smith and Bill (Betty) Smith, sister-in-laws- Irene Dellinger, Iva (Charles) Harrington, Helen Smith, Sadie Surber and brother-in-law, Raymond Cox.
She is proceeded in death by her parents- Joseph & Lucinda Smith, brothers- Claiborne, Arvel, and James Smith, sisters- Virginia Wilson and Wanda Cox. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends that she dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts may be made be made in her honor to Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp in Hillsboro, Ohio. As a young camper in the camp's early history to annual Senior retreats, Fort Hill held a special place in her heart.
Visitation at the Clifton Church of Christ, 695 Berkshire Lane, 45220 Tuesday May 26 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Service at the church Wednesday May 27 at 10 AM. Interment at Reading Cemetery.
