OPATKEN, Edward John
Beloved husband of Joan Opatken (nee Paterra) for 66 years. Loving father of Clifford (Emily Stoddard) Opatken, Linda (Tom) Rhein, Edward (Leshia) Opatken Jr., Therese (David) Foley, Susan (David) Danforth and Brian (the late Mary) Gregory. Cherished grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 24. He passed away July 11, 2018 at age 90.
Ed was a family man, a devoted and grateful husband and generous father. He was a devout Catholic; his faith was evident in his helpful and caring nature.
Ed was an avid sports fan, but especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was proud of all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He liked playing cards, especially bridge.
Ed graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948 as a chemical engineer. He worked for DuPont, NASA and EPA, retiring in 1994. He was a hard-working man who took great pride in his ideas and projects.
Visitation will take place at the Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd., (Rt.42), West Chester, Friday (today) from 6pm until 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Susanna Church, 616 Reading Rd., Mason, on Saturday at 10am. Condolences to hodappfneralhome.com
