Ethel Beel

d. November 5, 2013

Ethel E. (nee Nichting), passed peacefully at age 97, November 5th. She was the beloved wife of the late Bruce F. Beel for 44 years, devoted mother of Holly Selvaggio (Tom), Shelley Huetter (Tom), and the late Caroline Wolfe (Nick), and the proud grandmother of Michael Wolfe (Leslie), Robert Wolfe (Kathy), Chad Selvaggio, Nicole Calkin (Michael), and Scott Huetter. She also is survived by five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Becca Wolfe, Nicholas, Jacob and Emily Wolfe, nieces, nephews, and many caring friends. She was the sister of Anna Mae Mathis, the late Shirley Murphy and Wilbert Nichting. Ethel was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati, born September 4, 1916 to Edna and Gilbert Nichting. She was a member of St. Clare parish in College Hill for over 60 years. For almost 30 years until the age of 95, Ethel took 100 home- baked cookies to the Llanfair Retirement Home where she did volunteer work every Friday. She also managed a charity shop, The Lord’s Bounty, in College Hill every Tuesday. She often volunteered extra days when help was needed. Ethel was known as an avid sports fan and loved watching games on TV as well as participating in football and basketball pools. As a teenager she spent long hard hours helping her parents with their family- owned Dot food store in North Fairmount but found time to play on a team sponsored by Clancy’s Cafe in a fast pitch softball league. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Hospice of Cincinnati Inc., PO Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597, or The Lord’s Bounty, 5852 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45224. Services will be at St. Clare Church, 1443 Cedar Ave., 45224, Saturday, November 23, with visitation from 11:00 until mass at noon followed by lunch at the church.
