Friederike Elsaesser

ELSAESSER, Friederike (nee Roehrig), beloved wife of Stephen Elsaesser for 38 years, passed away on August 23, 2011, at the age of 93. Born in 1918 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Friedel met her future husband when he was asked to pick her up at the airport after being invited to visit America by a friend. Married in 1973, Friedel and Stephen “Bunce” have been fortunate to have lived a very happy, loving and fulfilling life together. The youngest of 9 siblings, 7 brothers and 1 sister, all deceased, Friedel was particularly close to her sister Elizabeth and traveled back to Germany with Bunce to care for her during the mid 80’s. She often spoke of how she enjoyed her work after the war as secretary to the court president. Her passion for music and the fine arts was obvious to anyone who met her. Often speaking fondly about the art store she and Bunce opened early on, “Friedel’s Fine Art,” she was also a highly accomplished singer and musician.
