Born in Spokane, WA to Dr. George E. and Genevieve Hoxsey, Michael grew up in Wenatchee, WA as an active athlete and student. His life changed when he contracted rheumatic fever in 1946, while a student at Saint Edward Seminary in Kenmore, WA. The illness and subsequent side effects and treatments left him incapacitated for a year. When he returned to school and studies it was with a new vision, one for which his children and grandchildren feel profound gratitude. His father created a therapy program for Michael that involved spending the next few summers working for the railroad as a gandy dancer and autumns stacking wheat sheaves on a 200-acre farm. As a result of this increased physical labor he had to produce his medical records to prove he had rheumatic fever when he entered the Marine Corps. He continued his military service the Naval Reserve and retired after 27 years as a Chief Petty Officer.

Michael met Joan, the love of his life, at Seattle University in 1956. They married November 30, 1957 and shared a crazy, mad, fiery love affair for 59 years, which produced six gorgeous and above average children.

A 1960 business school graduate of Seattle University, he worked as a claims adjuster for Safeco, a pharmaceutical representative for Wyeth, and for many years was the co-director with Joan of the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Youngstown. He received an MBA in Church Management from the Graduate Theological Foundation. In 1995 he and Joan created Relationship Resources, LLC.

The rheumatic fever finally caught up with him and he had a heart valve replacement in 1998. Even then the surgeons were surprised that his heart had not shown more damage from the rheumatic fever, a testament to Michael's father's prescription for physical labor as therapy.

An avid reader, music buff, traveler, gourmand and philosopher Michael lived a compassionate life that was an example to his children and friends. A dear friend recently described him as a Soldier of Love. He will be missed deeply.
