Glenford "Toby" E. Hitt

Glenford E. “Toby” Hitt, 82, of West Chester, Ohio, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Brookwood Retirement Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Norma L. (O’Connor) Hitt of West Chester; daughter, Mary Lee Hitt McCoy, and son-in-law, John McCoy, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; sisters, Genevieve Fryman of Germantown, Ky., Joy Mazzarella of Cincinnati, Marcella Remery of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Mildred Slattery of Ashland, Ky., and Nina Lurding of Indiana; sister-in-law Marjorie Hitt of Germantown; many extended family members; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Hitt; mother, Thelma (Keane) Hitt; brothers, Keith and Adrian Hitt; and sister, Marcelyne Altimari. Mr. Hitt was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Germantown, Ky. He graduated from Minerva High School in Mason County, Ky., in 1944. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed at Fort Meade, Md. He and Norma L. O’Connor, formerly of Augusta, Ky., were married July 21, 1956, in Augusta and made their first home in the Roselawn community of Cincinnati. Mr. and Mrs. Hitt moved to West Chester in 1962, and their daughter, Mary Lee, was born that year. Mr. Hitt was employed by General Electric in Evendale, Ohio, from which he retired as a drill operator in 1992. He was a member of the General Electric Retirees Association and American Legion Post 69 in Reading, Ohio. He attended St. John Catholic Church in West Chester. Mr. Hitt was also an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball teams. Visitation will take place Wednesday, February 25, at St. John Catholic Church, 9080 Cinti-Dayton Rd., West Chester, from 9 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Interment to follow at West Chester Twp. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati and/or St. John Catholic Church. Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester, serving the family.
