Harold Glenn Wethington

November 16, 1944 — January 22, 2021

WETHINGTON, Harold Glenn, 76, passed away Friday January 22, 2021, years after Alzheimer's disease began taking him away, one memory at a time. He died gently and peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Harold will be remembered for his sparkling eyes and quick wit; his endearingly corny one-liners; his friendly, mischievous demeanor; and his great love for and pride in his family. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and fun, adoring Grandfather, aka "Pop-Pops." He was a caring and supportive brother and uncle to a large, extended family. Throughout his life, Harold was a mentor, a confidant, and a true, dear friend. He was a man of faith. Harold will be deeply missed and widely mourned.

A lifelong Cincinnatian, Harold retired from The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company after a much-lauded career in sales and training. His first job, as a pre-teen, was setting bowling alley pins to earn money to buy doo-wop records. A lifelong music lover, and genre expert, Harold loved sharing his extensive knowledge of 45-rpm doo-wop and northern soul recordings, groups, labels and artists. He relished the hunt for a rare recording gem within the countless record stores and collector's basements he sought out wherever he traveled.

Throughout his life, Harold built a vast record collection - an interest through which he formed friendships across the globe. He was a founding member of CODA, the Cincinnati Oldies and Doo Wop Association. Harold found pure happiness listening and singing to the music he loved. Befitting his wishes, favorite songs played as he drew his final breaths.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Dyer.) He asked Dorothy to marry him numerous times after he'd forgotten they walked the aisle decades ago. He held her hand as they danced as recently as New Years Eve. Though his memories of their life together were lost, Harold's heart always knew Dorothy was his life's love.

Harold is also lovingly remembered by daughters Lori Davis (Steve), Jessica McLean (Tom); grandchildren Spencer Davis, Kaya and Clara McLean; brother Wendell (Kathy Blake); sister Kathy (Staton); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorena (Atwood) and Arnold Wethington; sisters Norma, Peggy (Abbott) and Donna (Telinda); and brother Larry.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund www.curealz.com.
