It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Homer Lum. He was a devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, and loyal friend. On Friday, January 10, 2025, Homer C. Lum Jr., 87, of Hamilton OH, died peacefully in his home with June, his bride of 59 years by his side.
Born in Dubois, PA in 1937 to the late Homer C. Sr. and Aleda V. Lum, the family later moved to New York, and he attended North Tonawanda High School. At the young age of 17, Homer enlisted in the US Marine Corps to see the world and serve his country. He did just that, touring more than 12 countries from Europe to South America. While in active service in the Artic Ocean, he had the distinction of serving as Honor Guard for the King of Norway’s funeral.
Homer met his true love, June Kearly, in 1959 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital where she worked with Homer’s mother, Aleda. The two were married in North Tonawanda, NY on August 14, 1965. They started a family of their own in February 1969, with the birth of their first son, Keith. A few years later, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio and added to their happy home with Troy’s arrival in 1973. They eventually established their home in West Chester, OH. It was a perfect family of four and Homer was proud of his boys! But the Lum house wasn’t complete without the family pug. Homer had a soft spot for the little dogs and loved spoiling them. Of the many hats that Homer wore, it was his role as “Grandpa” that he treasured most. He loved attending school events, band & choir concerts, numerous sporting events, and all the extracurricular activities his six wonderful grandchildren were involved with.
Homer brought the same passion and discipline developed in the U.S.M.C. to civilian life. He was an active member of Crestview Presbyterian Church of West Chester, a proud Freemason, and continued his travels through his work with the hospitality industry, nationally and internationally. After his retirement, his love of working with people and solving problems led him to HR Block where he helped countless people with their taxes well into his 80s.
Homer will always be remembered for having a great sense of humor, as well as his strong values and high morals. He was a man of faith and loved others deeply. Homer Lum was a remarkable person, and he loved to share his life experiences. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Homer C. Sr., Aleda (Abrahamson) and sister Alice Rebecca Lum. He is survived by his wife June (Kearly) Lum, his sons Keith (Kelly) Lum and Troy (Cynthia) Lum and grandchildren, Olivia, Isak, Caroline, Elyssa, Nolan and Averi Lum and his pup, Rylee.
