Mr. James Francis Schaeffner, 85, passed away on Friday afternoon, October 17, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his wife and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at College Hill Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio with the Rev. Drew Smith and the Rev. Stephen Eyre officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Schaeffner was born in New York City, New York on March 4, 1929, the son of the late Christopher Peter Schaeffner and Nora Alty Schaeffner. He moved with his family to Gainesville, Florida during his early teens. After graduating from Gainesville High School, he attended the University of Florida. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He received a BS in Forestry from the University of Florida in 1950. He then served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the University of Florida and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1956.
Mr. Schaeffner worked for the Proctor and Gamble Corporation for thirty years at various locations around the country and held numerous process, maintenance, and engineering management positions. He retired in 1986 and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to continue working with his lifelong friend Jay Thompson. He had a fulfilling retirement engaged in his many interests, which included the arts, the Audibon Society, wood carving, gardening, and Habitat for Humanity. He was active in the ministries of his church, College Hill Presbyterian.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Mrs. Cheryl White Schaeffner; three children: Jeffrey James Schaeffner(Cindy), Stephen Patrick Schaeffner(Alicia), and Michael Lawrence Schaeffner(Sharon); 6 grandchildren: Anthony Ibarra, Christopher Ibarra, Oscar Ibarra, Meagan Schaeffner, Ryan Buckley, and Erin Buckley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lori B. Schaeffner, his daughter Carol Marie Schaeffner, and his three sisters Joan Buning, Norma Adams, and Carol Black Egner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Salvation Army or The Nature Conservancy.
