James Leonard Kirby, 84, after a brief illness, departed July 8, 2017 to continue to serve his heavenly father with the love and devotion he showed during his time on this earthly planet. His devotion to God, family and his church gave comfort to him through his illness and ultimately brought him to peace. James was blessed with a large loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He married the love of his life Bessie Kirby and have been married for 61 years. James was a devoted member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church for 49 years and a member of Melrose Masonic Lodge for 32 years, serving briefly as steward. James was born in Tennessee in 1933 and moved to Cincinnati in 1955. James is survived by his wife Bessie, his sons Terry (Kim) and Jerry (Ronda) and three grandchildren Kelly (Collin), Nichole (Jared) and Keith (Bailey) and 8 grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Hodapp Funeral Home 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd., West Chester, Tuesday from 5pm until 8pm and Wednesday at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church 2417 Indian Mound Ave., Norwood, from 11am until Funeral Service at 12Noon. James will be laid to rest following the services at church at Landmark Cemetery.
