James C. Land, known affectionately as Jim, was born on July 23, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana to Robert and Joan Land. He peacefully passed away on May 28, 2024 in Cincinnati, Ohio due to an unexpected illness.
Jim led a fulfilling life marked by his dedication to both his career and loved ones. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Management in 1981, where he was also a valued member of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Jim's professional journey predominantly unfolded in the realm of software sales, before retiring in 2021.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim's vibrant personality endeared him to many. He possessed a remarkable sense of humor that never failed to brighten the lives of those around him. Jim had a profound love for animals, cherishing his dogs Jasper and Stella as integral members of his family. He often joked about having a special ability to communicate with them, playfully claiming he could speak 'dog'. An individual with an insatiable curiosity, Jim found joy in expanding his knowledge on various subjects, particularly history and science.
Among his many interests and hobbies, Jim adored collecting cigars, indulging in reading, exploring new destinations through travel, spending quality time with his beloved dogs, and relishing moments with his grandson Knox. Additionally, he shared a passion for experiencing wildlife adventures alongside his wife Mellisia - South Africa held a special place in their hearts due to their memorable safaris together.
Jim's proudest accomplishments revolved around his role as a father to his children Amy and Ryan. Embracing the joys of grandparenthood brought him immense happiness as Knox entered their lives. Furthermore, Jim found camaraderie and success as a member of the Hawks championship family wiffle ball team.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mellisia (Mel) Land; his two children, Amy (Ryan) Griffith, Ryan Land; Grandson, Knox Griffith; sister Carol (Mac) McCarthy, bother Tom (Lorie) Land, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by father, Robert Hugh Land and mother, Joan Baugh Land.
One of the cherished memories linked to Jim was the annual tradition he upheld with friends from grade school - attending the Indy 500 which he meticulously organized for over forty years. This tradition symbolized not only his commitment to nurturing relationships but also highlighted his penchant for creating lasting memories with loved ones.
Jim leaves behind a wealth of memories that will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm demeanor, unwavering love for family and friends, coupled with an adventurous spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of sharing in life's journey with him.
May he rest in peace while eternally residing within our hearts filled with gratitude for having shared life’s most precious moments alongside such a remarkable individual like Jim Land.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044, on Monday June 10, 2024, from 11:30am until time of Memorial Service at 1pm.
