Hazel Janet Lakeman, who insisted to be addressed by her middle name of Janet, passed away in her sleep on Monday, January 2nd, 2017. She was 85. Janet was admitted to a hospital days earlier but was released back to her home, a Memory Care facility at Brookdale Long Cove Pointe in Mason, Ohio. She had lived there for several years since being diagnosed with dementia.
She was preceded in death by her blessed parents, Martha (Grop) and Albert Schmerr, her loving husband Frank, and her beloved daughter Martha. She is survived by her cherished daughter Linda (Lakeman) Berger, her loving son in law Stephen Berger, and her precious grandsons Adam and Ethan Berger.
Janet worked at Dial’s restaurant and coffee shop in Hamilton, Ohio from 1948 thru 1954. She left the restaurant at that time to become a full-time mother. Janet often volunteered as a room mother during both of her daughters’ elementary school education. She was an avid reader of many magazines and books and mostly focused on biographies and real life events. Janet enjoyed playing cards and working on jigsaw puzzles with her family. She was also an enthusiastic walker who enjoyed being out in the sun.

A visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm on Monday, January 9th at the Hodapp Funeral Home 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Road West Chester, Ohio 45069. The funeral will continue with a memorial service at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 10th with a service at the funeral home. After the service, we will proceed to Rose Hill Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio.
