d. March 30, 2015

Jeanette (Jean) G. Gutzwiller, age 74 of Mason, Ohio, left this earth peacefully on March 30, 2015, surrounded by her family in her home.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Susanna Roman Catholic Church, Mason, Ohio.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery, Ohio.

A visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester, Ohio.

Born Jeanette Gertrude Steffens on November 7, 1940 in St. Michael, MN, the daughter of Philip and Grace (Roskowyk) Steffens, the ninth in a family of ten children.  Raised on a family farm, she attended a one room country grade school and graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 1957.

Jean and Kenneth (Ken) Gutzwiller were united in holy matrimony on October 7, 1961 at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, MN.  God blessed their marriage with four children.  Ken’s military service and employment took Jean and the family to Kodiak, Alaska; Green Bay, WI; Ventura, CA; and finally to the greater Cincinnati, Ohio area.  She was a “stay at home mother” until her youngest child entered high school at which time she re-entered the workforce and concurrently earned an Associate of Applied Business degree from Raymond Walters College branch of the University of Cincinnati.

She retired from full time work in 2002 so that she and Ken could begin spending summers at their retirement home on Diamond Lake in Atwater, MN.  At the lake Jean enjoyed fishing, taking care of her garden (particularly the roses and raspberries), visiting and playing cards with the 49th Avenue neighbors.  This she did for thirteen summers.

Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ken; children, Barbara (John) Boyd, Kristina (Steve) Boerger, Gretchen (Terry) Bachelier, John (Kim) Gutzwiller; nine grandchildren; and sisters Alicia Gertken and Darlene Glennon.

Preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Grace Steffens; brothers Joseph and Leon Steffens; and sisters Anna Marie Kosloski, Elda Hare, Kathryn Mae Fouquette, Mary Chouinard, and Corrine Buschel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial be made to Hospice of Cincinnati.
