Live stream of Mass of Christian Burial held for Jerry Dossenback Jerry Dossenback, beloved husband of Elizabeth Dossenback (nee Scheible), father of John and Michael (Debbie) Dossenback, stepfather of Jeff (Kathy) and Jody Zaeske, brother of Ron (Cindy), Richard and the late Ray (Dottie) Dossenback. Grandfather to Josh, Alyssa, Jacob and Jaden; Chaz, Tiffany and Brendan Dossenback. Step-grandfather to Shannon (Derrike) Kolb, Emily Zaeske and Abigail Kinder. Great-grandfather to Grant Kolb, and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was proud of his 12 years in the Navy carrying on what became a tradition for the Dossenback brothers to serve on aircraft carriers. This has continued with his nephew Kelly Dossenback. Navy pilot and commander of his squad. His youngest brother served in the Army. Jerry served time in Rota, Spain and as a Navy Recruiter in Dayton and Cincinnati. He also served one year in the army. After his years of service with the Navy he worked for the U.S. Postal service ending as manager of the parts department at the Bulk Mail Center in Sharonville.
He looked forward to retirement when his happiest moments were spending time with his grandchildren. Unfortunately, he always regretted the time he missed with the grandchildren who lived out of state. His one big event every year was to visit his granddaughter’s grade school on Veterans Day. The children were amazed that he served in both the Army and Navy. He would bring patches for them and showed them pictures of aircraft carriers. It became such a tradition that when he was at school for any other event the kids always greeted him with “Hi Grandpa.” One class wrote individual letters to him thanking him for coming to their class.
He loved fishing but catching fish was not the priority, he just loved tossing a line at any fishing lake and relaxing. His favorite vacation spot was Destin, Florida, during the month of October. The whole month is devoted to the fishing rodeo. He was always hoping to catch the big one so he could make it on the Winners board. Every evening he headed to the docks waiting for the boats to come in with their catch.
He always had an interest in antique clocks which began while he was stationed in Spain. He joined NAWCC and was a regular attendee at the monthly meetings. Whenever a friend or neighbor needed help with their clocks, he was always ready to assist in any way. His interest expanded not only to antique wall and shelf clocks, also to pocket watches, and in the later years, learning and purchasing Gruen watches. The Gruen Watch Company of Cincinnati buildings still exist.
We can’t leave out his love of bingo. He went weekly with friends he made over the years. His other love, White Castle coffee. Anyone was welcome to visit but don’t forget to bring 2 cups of coffee – 4 would be better.
Jerry was a kind and big- hearted man with a jovial and jokester personality. It is hard for the family to say goodbye. He will be sorely missed. (Another missing link in the Dossenback chain.)
