John Edward (Jack) Duggan II, passed away on September 4th surrounded by his family. Born June 16, 1939 was preceded in death by his parents, Loretto Gudmens and John Edward Duggan I, his daughter, Anne Patricia Duggan, sisters, Evelyn Starkey and Jill Bohnert. He is survived by his sister Loretto (Marty) Reddington, his children: Rich Duggan (Bridget), Dr. Cassie Duggan, Jim Duggan (Jackie), Julie Sutton (Will), Jason Duggan (Allison) and Laura Canfield (Taylor) and grandchildren: Ryan and Sean Duggan, Connor, Collin, and Mckenzie Duggan, Harrison, Campbell, Callan, and Tallulah Sutton, Lyla, Harper, Griffin and Carter Duggan, and Noah, Aria, Leo, and Lorelei Canfield.
Jack, a Cincinnati native, was a graduate of St. Xavier High School followed by an undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Accounting, and received his MBA at Xavier University. Jack became a CPA and started his career with Ernst &Young (formerly Ernst & Ernst) and went on to have his own leasing firm, Duggan Financial Inc.
Jack saw many challenges in his 85 years of life yet persevered through them all with integrity, determination, and positivity. Until his dying day, he never stopped working. There were always taxes to be done, a site to be supervised, and something to be fixed. There was nothing he believed he couldn’t conquer, overcome, learn from and rebuild again. Later in life he found a love for construction and was able to pair his incredible math skills with his surprising creativity.
While professional accolades were of importance to Jack, he found more joy during his summer days at Lake Lorelei with family and friends. He was nonstop teaching his children, friends and nieces and nephews how to waterski or tossing them off tubes. He loved vacationing to Boca Raton and Siesta Key with friends that became family, and Christmas was his favorite holiday. As life changed, spending time with his ever-growing family brought him so much happiness.
When The Beach Boys play, we’ll think of Jack docking the boat after an afternoon on the water at the lake, when Billy Joel croons we’ll remember his CD player in his home office and dancing by his desk while he worked endlessly to provide for us, and when Andy Williams Christmas kicks on the stereo, we’ll remember the jolliest man setting up the camcorder to preserve the sweetest memories for his family.
Jack will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, always saying yes to someone in need. Jack taught so much to so many, but mostly what it is to have a bootstrap mentality and an unyielding work ethic. He is finally free from his pain and burdens from this earthly world and we are grateful for the healing we know he has received at the gates of Heaven. He will live on in the hearts, memories, and talks of all who loved him, especially his children and grandchildren.
