John Ray Ricke, age 81, died peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio, on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 after an extended illness. He was born on November 1, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His survivors include John’s beloved wife of 32 years, Gloria, his children and their spouses, son Charles and Martha Ricke and her son Allen, son Steven and Brenda Ricke, daughter Susan and Steven Groome, Gina Hatfield and her daughter Katie; and his two grandchildren Abigail and Zachary Groome. He was also blessed to be surrounded by a large extended family.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and worked in the trucking industry until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed camping, raising horses with his family and was involved in many 4-H club projects and competitions.
Throughout his life, John was known as a person who loved to donate his spare time to help his family, friends and neighbors and could fix just about anything. This was especially true for home and auto repair in which he was very skilled and he loved to work with his hands. His kind heart and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation and memorial service will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on October 30, 2015 at Hodapp Funeral Home at 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Road West Chester, OH 45039. His burial will follow at Union Cemetery on Montgomery Road in Cincinnati.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Hospice of Cincinnati.
