John Martin Sherman

April 29, 1937 — September 16, 2024

John Martin Sherman, loving father, cherished grandfather and gentle friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024.

Quick to smile and kind in temperament, John adored his family, including nine grandchildren. He showed tremendous love for them in his roles as everything from a devoted babysitter andchauffeur to math tutor and milkshake maker, which also satiated his passion for ice cream! Friends and acquaintances enjoyed his easy demeanor, friendly banter, warm disposition and dapper style.

John was the younger of two boys born to Margaret and Everett Sherman in Stuart, Iowa, on April 29, 1937. As a young man he excelled in leadership in the 4-H Club, raising prize-winning Hereford cattle and shooting billiards. After graduating from Iowa State University, he pursued a successful career in the food industry, working as an executive for The Kroger Company, Eskimo Pie Corporation and several other companies.

A devoted family man, John was the father of John (Nannette) Sherman, Matthew Sherman, Susan Sherman, David (Martine Myrup) Sherman and Anne (Ernesto Alonso) Sherman. He is survived by his former spouse, Patricia Sherman, children, grandchildren, brother Joseph (Jane) Sherman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

As a practicing Roman Catholic and spiritual man, his faith sustained him throughout his life and in his final days. His peaceful departure from this life has led him to richly deserved serenity and peace in heaven. John, Dad, Papa will be missed and loved forever.

Services will be held privately. John benefited from the care and compassion of the providers at Hospice of Cincinnati. The family requests that any donations made in his memory be sent to Hospice of Cincinnati 4360 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242 or online at hospiceofcincinnati.org.
