“Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” (Dylan Thomas)
On March 25, 2021, Justin (41) raged into that good night with his devoted wife, Kristin, by his side.
Growing up, Justin was a “spirited” boy. Channeling this energy in the Boy Scouts, he made Eagle Scout. He was this through and through, exemplifying the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
This same driving spirit transplanted Justin to the Midwest. He rose from the South after grad school to begin his career as a self described “mediocre engineer;” though colleagues and friends would undoubtedly say otherwise, earning tremendous respect throughout the aerospace community during his career.
It was also in the Midwest where he met his wife and got married, became a father, had three dogs, learned to love sweet corn (sorry Cincinnati style chili, you never stood a chance), started pheasant hunting, and earned his blue-white belt in ninjutsu. He also became a fan of the Colts and the Reds, but remained loyal to his MSU Bulldogs and Texas A&M Aggies.
Over the better part of a year, Justin endured an aggressive lymphoma with a fighting, resilient spirit. “But cancer does not care who it takes, who it hurts, or honor or love. It comes into your life and starts to break the threads that hold you and you are left to see pieces of yourself slip away and dreams fade. We were clung only to each other with pure love and faith binding us, in the end is when the most amazing thing happens, cancer loses its strength and grace appears. We need to see it. We accept it, and go with it. Grace and love win, not cancer.” (O’Rourke 2015)
Justin is survived by his wife of 12.5 years, Kristin, and two children, Patrick and Alice, his mother, Patricia, and two siblings, Sean (Catherine) and Claudette, and a niece, Codie. He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis, grandparents, and uncle.

Justin was a believer and a man of science. He received medicines and treatments that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society helped advance and make available within the last decade, and did give us more days with him. Donations can be made to the
