Karen Sue Skaggs (Krach) of Sun City, Florida, passed away at the age of 77 on October 11, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father Michael P. Krach, Sr, her mother Elizabeth J. Krach (Weaver), her brothers Michael P. Krach, Jr. and Donald G. Krach.
She was the devoted mother of Michelle Skaggs (Amarillo, TX) and Marc (Carrie) Skaggs (Lithia FL) and loving Grandmother to Brady and Olivia Skaggs.
She was the sister of Becky Born, Jim (Donna) Krach, David (Anne) Krach, Joe (Teri) Krach & Maribeth (Tim) Dougherty, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Upon graduation from Julienne High School, Dayton, OH, in 1960 she went on to attend St. Elizabeth School of Nursing where received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She then enlisted in the US Air Force and served her country as a 1st lieutenant.
Following her honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1967, Karen worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at Bexar County Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
In 1979, Karen and her family moved to Cincinnati, OH at which time she helped to develop an EMTP program and trained paramedics and EMT’s in Butler County. She then worked at the University of Cincinnati Hoxworth Blood Center as well as a gameday EMT for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Karen retired from Hoxworth Blood Center in 2007 after 20 years of dedicated service and eventually moved to Apollo Beach, FL in July of 2009 to be close to, and enjoy her time with her grandkids.
She loved family get togethers and looked forward to the weekly Sunday morning brunches. Karen was an excellent cook and was best known for her amazing pies, in particular lemon meringue and cherry. As an accomplished seamstress she often made clothes for her children and made dresses for her daughter and nieces with smocking that rivaled the complex and popular Polly Flinders dresses.
