Kathy was born in Cincinnati in 1960 to Fred and Sue Owens, who loved her and her 4 siblings unconditionally. It was a well-known fact that Kathy was the favorite child. That was OK with her siblings as Kathy was the kindest, gentlest, and most sensitive of the group. Kathy lived with her parents during their later years, acting as their main caretaker - assisting with daily activities, transportation to multiple doctor appointments and providing a watchful eye over them at all times. Kathy’s family was forever grateful for her generosity.
Kathy lived a full life, married to the late Jim Lawson for 20 years. Although they divorced, they remained friends throughout their lives. She worked at Meier’s Winery for over 20 years. She loved that job and was sad when she had to leave due to some physical challenges she was facing. She was an active member of the West Chester Nazarene Church, rarely missing weekly services and assisting in various activities when she was able.
Kathy had a special way with children and animals. She loved her nieces and nephews, especially the great ones, as if they were her own children. Animals adored Kathy just as she adored them, treating each one like the valuable family members they were. Animals gravitated to Kathy; they could recognize the goodness in her immediately.
Everybody who knew Kathy knew how much she loved to crochet. She was always making blankets for gifts while also donating to various charities.
Kathy will always be remembered for her gentle soul and the way that she always took care of others. We could not have asked for a better sister, aunt, cousin or friend and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved Kathy.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her 4 siblings, their spouses, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Too many to list by name.
A Celebration of Life is being planned and details will be announced in the coming days. Kathy’s ashes will be buried alongside of her parents located in the Brookside Cemetery in West Chester, Ohio.
If you would like to honor Kathy in some fashion, donations to STAF (Save the Animals Foundation) would be greatly appreciated. (STAF.org)
