Gayle Overbey

Gayle Overbey, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at age 94 on March 20, 2025 at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant in Monroe, OH.

She was born in Cincinnati, OH in 1930 to James E. & Lillian (née Kendall) Frost. Her siblings Hazel E. Hewitt, George W. (Jack) Frost (Lorraine), and Elizabeth Ann Claire Melampy (Chuck) all preceded her in death. She grew up in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Ohio and back to Kentucky where she graduated from Hustonville High School in 1948. She later moved to Elmwood, OH and worked as a telephone operator.

In 1951, she met the love of her life, Perry EDWARD Overbey. They were married after six weeks and five minutes. During their almost 60 years of marriage, they lived in Cincinnati, OH, Richmond, IN, Indianapolis, IN, and Wilmington, DE before retiring back to Sharonville, OH in 1991. Ed passed away in 2011, one month prior to their 60th wedding anniversary.

Gayle will be greatly missed by her children, Karen Volfson, Randy (Theresa) Overbey, and Scott (Cheryl) Overbey.

Gayle also treasured time with her grandchildren Kris Overbey, Keith (Lynda) Overbey, Kurt Overbey, Jenny (Brad) Westfall, Michael Overbey, and Renée Overbey as well as her great grandchildren Charlie Overbey, Lexie Overbey, and Abby Westfall.

Gayle was an active member of Sharonville United Methodist Church until the pandemic in 2020. In 2023, Gayle moved from Sharonville to the retirement community of Ohio Living Mount Pleasant in Monroe, OH.

Gayle loved baking, making fudge, playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles. She also loved traveling with her husband to beaches, historic places, and national parks.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gayle’s life on Thursday March 27, 2025, at Hodapp Funeral Home in West Chester located at 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd. The gathering time is at 10:00 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM and burial immediately afterwards at Oak Hill Cemetery in Springdale, OH.
