NORTON, Lois Eleanor, 68, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away June 2, 2014, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Born Lois Eleanor Brown on June 26, 1945, in Laurel, MD, she grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, the second daughter of Charles Sumner Brown and Anne Eleanor Brown. She graduated from Woodward High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. Lois lived for many years in Mobile, Ala., where her three daughters were born. She later moved to Port Angeles, WA, and then Winston-Salem, N.C., before coming to Farmington, MN, where she was a short drive from her two grandchildren. She worked for more than two decades in the automotive business, moving up from cashier to office manager and comptroller.
Lois had a lifelong love of animals, and enjoyed the companionship of many poodles, cats and birds throughout her life. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Anne Jeffress (Michael); daughters Kristen Lee Powell (Cory), Kindra Lynn Allen (Jason) and Kimber Lynelle Norton; and grandchildren Charles Cole Powell and Carson Ann Powell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org) and the Animal Humane Society (aminalhumanesociety.org). Friends are welcome to attend her graveside service at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road., Mt. Healthy Monday at 2 PM by gathering at the main gate at 1:45 PM.
