Lois Jean Morgan Thompson

Lois Jean Morgan Thompson passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021. She was 86 years old. Born on September 6, 1934 Lois was a loving wife to Bob, her ‘sweetheart’ of 67 years. They were a fun-loving couple who supported each other and shared a deep Christian faith.

Lois was a devoted Mother to Teresa Thompson and Lynn Thompson. She was a proud Grandmother to Lyndsay Willis Simpson and Robert Graham Willis. She was also lovingly blessed with three great-grandchildren, Layne, Landry and Logan Simpson. Though distance kept her apart from her greats, Lois adoringly looked at their photos each day as she sat in her favorite kitchen chair.

Preceded in death by her loving parents Jim and Julia Morgan, Lois was an only child. Born and raised in Greenwood Indiana, her fondest memories were growing up in a small town where everyone knew your name. Lois would reminisce that as a youth she would play ‘slips’ on her bike, (a form of hide and go seek on bicycles).  Lois enjoyed walking to school with her girlfriends, singing in the choirs at church and school, playing 1^st clarinet in the band, participating in all the girls’ sports and attending high school games to watch her beau ‘Bobby’. Her life was a constant social whirlwind and she loved it. Her favorite job in high school was with the local newspaper. Her job was to visit people around town and discover all the social events that were being planned. She then wrote informative articles with details of small-town life. She said she loved that job because she got to talk to everyone!

During high school, Lois was part of a trio of singers called the Kaylobets. In 1952 they won the Indiana State Amateur Singing Championship and were heard on the radio. Lois was proud of that achievement but talked more of the fun she had singing with her friends at community events around town, church gatherings and at school.  All through her life she could easily sing a tune with a beautiful tone.

Lois attended Indiana Central College for two years and those were happy years. Diving head first into many campus activities where her charm and personality gained her close friends. As part of the women’s basketball team, Lois was a pioneer in the early days of women’s collegiate basketball. A true Hoosier at heart, Lois loved basketball and carried that passion for college basketball the rest of her life. Rooting for her favorite teams of Indiana, Duke, and the local Cincinnati teams. Winter evenings were spent watching games with Bob and rooting for her teams.

Work brought Lois and Bob to Cincinnati where they originally settled in Pleasant Ridge. How fortunate this was as they became active in the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church where they remained members for over 60 years. The church provided many friends and Lois was active with the women’s groups.  Lois also taught Sunday School and served as an Elder and Deacon. Lois taught religion classes to children for many years through the school system. Enjoying the opportunity to share her faith of God and singing his praises with the children.

Lois was active in the Pleasant Ridge PTA which brought her lifelong friendships too. These friendships produced such fun and happy memories for the entire family.  There were summer picnics on the Houser’s farm, riding horses, playing bridge, sewing Christmas ornaments for the church, singing in the community choir, and watching the kids grow up. Friendships that have lasted 60 years.

Lois read daily devotionals and gave the best prayers at dinner time. She was very close to her Uncle Benny, a Baptist minister, and his wife Pearl. Spending summers with them as a young child and attending many church functions.

Later in life she enjoyed attending golf tournaments with her daughter Lynn and granddaughter Lyndsay. She relished listening to her grandson sing in his choir.

Lois was a woman of faith, devoted to her family. Encouraging her husband and daughters in their businesses and helping out as much as she could. She was hard working, a wonderful cook, an avid sports enthusiast, lover of horses and dogs, and a good friend to many.

She was always ‘that girl from Indiana’ at heart and may she be singing with the choirs in heaven.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 14, 2021, at 12 noon at Union Cemetery 9323 Union Cemetery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249.
