Marcia Ann Kuhr

January 4, 1941 – December 19, 2018

KUHR, MARCIA ANN (nee Woeste). Faithful daughter to the late Herbert and Marcella Woeste (nee Neltner). Beloved wife of William M. (Billy K) Kuhr who preceded her in death in March 1998. Devoted mother of Scott (Brenda) Kuhr, Jeff (Lisa) Kuhr, David (Theresa) Kuhr, and Stephen (Anne) Kuhr. Loving grandmother of Matthew, Sarah, Ryan, Ella, Julia, Maria, Eva, Nathan, and Noah. Dear sister of Judy Hahn, Polly Goodwin-Deemer (Jim), Celine (Jim) Burnett, Herb (Pat) Woeste, Karen Woeste-Saling (Steve). Godmother to Colleen (Geoff) Pearson and Adam (Jen) Woeste. Lifelong friend to Carol Schradin-Crowthers (Tom).

Marcia was born and raised in the Cincinnati area and lived there her entire life. From the family home on Ivanhoe Avenue in Norwood, Ohio she attended grade school and church at St. Elizabeth Parish and then graduated from Regina High School. Family life at home and teachings at St. Elizabeth and Regina helped her form a strong Catholic faith that sustained her throughout her life.

Marcia and Bill were married in October 1960, becoming the 2nd of now three generations to be married on “Sweetest Day” (3rd Saturday in October). They quickly started a family which eventually grew to include four sons. Marcia worked for a short time following the birth of oldest son Scott in order to help earn enough to put a down payment on the family’s first house in Silverton, Ohio. By the time Jeff, then David, and then Steve were born, Marcia was a full-time mom taking care of the entire family. School events, ball games, swimming lessons, church functions, laundry, nightly family dinner…she did it all. Eventually, the family moved to a new home in Kenwood, Ohio and joined All Saints Parish. Marcia eventually re-entered the workforce once the boys were old enough to care for themselves before and after school. Later, she moved into her Norwood childhood home and eventually shared it with her older sister when Judy retired and moved back to Cincinnati.

Family was always the centerpiece of Marcia’s life. She and husband Bill proudly raised four boys that all went on to graduate from college, marry, and start families of their own. When medical issues arose with her mother Marcella and her father Herb, she was there to provide caring support until illness and age eventually claimed them. The same was true when Bill fell ill and passed at the age of 59.

Marcia had many friends and a large support network. Family members recall few, if any, instances where she was outwardly angry or spoke ill of anyone. She enjoyed social events and trips to Florida with her “club girls”. Christmas was her favorite season. After shopping all year for gifts, every family member, especially the grandkids, would have a stack of presents to open that was taller than they were. “Grandma” Carol was a frequent companion on the year-round shop-a-thons. The smiles and hugs that came from making people happy were the best gifts for Marcia.

Marcia (Grandma) enjoyed vacation trips with her sons’ families. Those trips were priceless memories, providing opportunities to see and share experiences that might otherwise have been unattainable after Bill passed.

She eventually retired from working, but her retirement years didn’t measure up to the dreams she was hoping for. She spent her whole life serving others, building memories for herself and those people who were special in her life. Sadly it was her own memories that were taken from her late in life. She had wonderful caregivers in her last years, including her devoted and loving sister Judy and the kind hearts and caring spirits at Artis Senior Living of Mason. During that time, she always looked forward to visits from friends and family, especially when they involved “field trips”.

She loved music, especially Elvis and the sounds of the season at Christmas time. She had an insatiable sweet tooth, especially loving chocolate chip cookies, Snickers bars, pudding, and ice cream. She made the best strawberry pies and her green Christmas cookies were always a hit.

Marcia’s faith was life-long strong. When health difficulties surfaced late in her life, familiar prayers comforted her and despite the health issues, her faith never wavered. That faith proved to be an example and inspiration to others.

Marcia passed peacefully at age 77 into the loving arms of her dear Lord early Wednesday, December 19, 2018, surrounded by family members and the prayers of all who loved her. In a lifetime of building memories, even her last hours and minutes of life provided an unforgettable memory that will inspire others well beyond her years.

Marcia was blessed with a wonderful life well lived.

Well done my good and faithful servant. God bless Marcia and all the faithful departed.
