Marjorie Ann Wagner Roediger was born in College Hill to Walter and Eugenia Kornau. She was the middle sister of Marilyn Wagner Spreen (William) and Roberta Wagner Hyde (Robert), and grew up on a street busy with family and friends. She attended College Hill School, Hughes High School and the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Her father named her ‘Mitzie’ at an early age, a name that fit her gregarious and friendly personality. Mitzie met Bob Roediger at a winter nursing dance, and they quickly knew they belonged together. Mitzie and Bob married on New Year’s Eve 1951, and were happily married throughout their long life together. Their homes followed Bob’s career from Boston with the Navy to Troy, Ohio (where they lived three different times during their marriage); Newark and Lancaster, Ohio; St. Louis and finally to Cincinnati. Mitzie and Bob had daughter Christine Ann Roediger (Cincinnati) and son Robert Wagner Roediger (Wilkes Barre, PA). Bob passed on in 2019. Mitzie is survived by her sister Roberta (Bert), daughter and son, grandson Scott Small (Philadelphia, PA), brothers in law Richard Roediger and James (Judy) Roediger, and many nieces and nephews.
Mitzie’s life was marked by long friendships, laughter, activity, travel with Bob, homemaking and service to her community. She was an accomplished artist, though too modest speak much about it. Mitzie was also quite the athlete who danced as a child, was an avid golfer and solid bowler. She gardened, and her roses were a thing of beauty. Even as her memory began to fail, she remembered to trim and feed her roses. Mitzie loved engaging with people, was quick-witted and such fun. Her laughter was contagious, and stories about her generally include shared laughter. She passed on at Ohio Living Llanfair on Thanksgiving Day 2022 after years of dementia / Alzheimer’s.
Her cremated remains will be interred with Bob on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 with a Graveside Service in the Riverside Cemetery Chapel, 101 Riverside Drive, Troy, Ohio, 45373 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow.
There will also be a Memorial Service held the following day, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the College Hill Presbyterian Church, 5742 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45224. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until Service at 11:30 am. A luncheon will follow.
