Martha Jane (Mitchell) Scoggin - Biehle

December 28, 1939 — December 5, 2021

Martha Jane (Mitchell)Scoggin- Biehle, 81, passed away peacefully & on her own terms, at home on December 5th. Mom was born On December 28,1939 in Troy, PA to the late Henry & Alberta Mitchell. She was the middle of 5 children. Later to be called” The Flying Circus” due to their wild escapades through the years. She married our Dad, Loren D Scoggin & began their journey together, moving from town to town wherever his work took him. She told us she was domestically challenged, to my father’s dismay, as she had housekeepers growing up. She cooked everything at 350 degrees for an hour. She said she didn’t want us to get worms. After she had 3 of us in 3.5 years, she decided to make Mason our home. While raising us largely by herself, she worked a full-time job did my father’s books, as well as volunteered for Warren County Community Service delivering meals to the less fortunate. Mom was independent, strong willed woman with a steel exterior and a huge heart. She taught us a strong work ethic, a sense of right and wrong, as well as to be selfsufficient adults. Raising us could be a of a challenge, but she did her best to keep us on the straight and narrow. She gave us all guidance, including our friends, who considered her their 2nd Mother. She wasn’t judgmental and never said I told you so. She would just knowingly nod then help us with whatever trouble we had gotten ourselves into. Always our biggest cheerleader & protector. She was my best friend from the beginning. Mom loved life, her family & friends, especially her devoted grandsons but, I don’t think as much as she did her Diet Coke & coffee. She will be truly missed. We will carry the happy memories of her with us for the rest of our lives. She will make her final journey to her hometown of Troy, Pennsylvania being laid to rest in her family plot on December 29th.The Flying Circus will be reunited. Martha is survived by her son, Marvin P. Scoggin of Gillette, Wyoming, daughter, Laurie D. Kottyan of Athens, Ohio, grandsons, Brandon W. Hundley of Mason and Kyle L. Kottyan of Hilliard, Ohio, sister Florence Powell of Brushton, as well as nieces & nephews. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at the American Legion, 401 Reading Rd. Mason, Ohio 45040, on Saturday, January 1st at 6:00 pm.
