Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Holmes (65), mother, grandmother, wife, x-ray technician, business woman and a fine cook and baker passed away on June 16, 2019.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, the middle of five children to the close family of Wheeler O. and Barbara C. Holmes on August 29, 1953. Graduating from Concord High School in 1971, Beth, as her friends called her, went on to x-ray technical school and was immediately given a position as an x-ray technician at George Washington University Hospital in 1973. Working overtime and putting in so many hours, she caught the eye of surgical resident John Pressler. After a three year courtship they were married in 1977. Not long after, tragedy struck and Beth had a stroke. Surviving that, and two surgeries totaling 20 hours, the situation stabilized and she was able to return to work.
At this time Beth moved with her husband to Hamilton, Ohio for his surgical practice and for them to start a family. After three children over six years, Beth decided to start a business and ran Beckett Ridge Wines for many prosperous years. Seeing the children having success in business and professional life, Beth moved to Loveland, Ohio, with her growing family, which by 2013 included two grandchildren.
Fate, however, was not yet through with her and the disability of diabetes and hypertension left her near blind so that she took up residence at Garden Manor, Middletown, Ohio, in assisted living. Ultimately she died peacefully of complications from cancer and diabetes.
Beth was preceded by her parents, Wheeler and Barbara Holmes. She is survived by her three children, Shannon (Bryan) Stromenger, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen (Jason) Murtlow, Monroe, Ohio, and Michael (fiancée Jessica) Pressler, Middletown, Ohio, from her first marriage to John E (Vicki) Pressler, grandchildren Alexander and Abigail Murtlow, her brothers William (Debbie) Holmes, Wilmington, Delaware, and David (Christine) Holmes, Los Angeles, California, and sisters Susan Holmes, Wilmington, Delaware, and Patricia (Rich) Gumpert, Bonita Springs, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Oaks at Garden Manor Assisted Living, Middletown, Ohio, for their care and devotion through the last six years that Beth was a resident.
Memorial visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044, on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 2pm until time of blessing at 3pm.
