Mary Ellen Hart was born in Hamilton, Ohio and had a lifelong love for that city. She met and later married William Helwig while she was in Nursing School at Deaconness Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for 37 years at Deaconness as an RN. She and Bill were lifelong residents of Cincinnati where they raised three children, Cindy, Dan and Tom. She and Bill were a match made in Heaven, partly because she believed that the wife and mother's place was to keep the family together, through making everyone feel loved and special. She loved and missed Bill until the day she died.
Mary Ellen was kind, affectionate, very generous and a true peacekeeper (Love one another!)but could not keep a secret when she was excited. While their daughter was in grad school Mary Ellen and Bill went to visit. Knowing how busy Cindy and Perry were she talked Bill into getting them a microwave. But, she was unable to keep the secret and woke Perry and Cindy up in the middle of the night to tell them about their gift.
She loved children, especially her 9 grandchildren and loved being their pied piper. When asked about her the grandchildren said " Whatever you say about great Grandmothers describes our Grandma." She sought out things each one liked and sent recordings of "Shark Week", yarn to learn to knit with, or extra life vests among many other treasures. The kids loved to "help" her by telling her when her lipstick needed to be refreshed. She was quick whitted, tender hearted, loving and always had an old school saying or song that fit the situation perfectly. When she left from a visit she would leave candy on the children's pillows so they wouldn't feel sad when she was gone.
She loved to eat good food and especially when sharing it with her many friends and family. Mary Ellen was deeply loved and will be missed every day.
