Mary Safrey (born Mary Assunta Bigini), of Long Island City and Floral Park, NY; Flagler Beach, Florida; and Middletown, Ohio, on May 16, 2015, aged 90 years 11 months 21 days. Beloved mother of John and Gloria (Mrs. Richard Zbilicki), dear sister of Dorothy (Perez), Barbara (Zimmerman), and the late Robert, Jeanne (Ryan), and Gloria (Ellis). Also loved and missed by granddaughters Jennifer and Elizabeth (Mrs. Seth Markman), great-grandchildren Juliette and Nathaniel, brothers-in-law Tom and Frank, nieces and nephews, and countless friends, acquaintances, and co-workers. She loved to drive, having gotten a license and car in the very early 1950s, a rarity for a woman in those days, and only gave up driving when diabetes-related eye disease came on about 20 years ago. Always a working woman, from the 1940s through the 1990s she brought her talents to such employers as R.H. Macy Company, Jones & Laughlin Corp., Baker Brands, Long Island Jewish Hospital, Marino Bar Review Course, J. Gardiner Pieper, Esq., and BAR/BRI Bar Review. She took care of her family. She touched so many lives over nine decades and is remembered with love and with laughter. Requiem Mass and visitation were held in West Chester, Ohio. Interment beside her late husband, John J. Safrey, at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY, at a date to be announced.
