Melvin Jerome Wimmer, aka Mel, aka Junior, Pops, Papaw, Melveena quietly and peacefully left us at the age of 72 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, oldest and soft-spoken child Amy and her husband Greg, youngest and best-behaved child Kevin, and his wife Erin. Proud grandfather to Karissa, Joel and Julia. Dogfather to Joseph, aka Joe, aka Joseph, Bono, Comet and Sebastian and Granddogfather to Sonny and Mason. Catfather to Echo and Baby and Grandcatdaddy to Hendrix and Axel. Doting patriarch to all. Caring brother and uncle to too many to list.
Mel lived his entire life in the Cincinnati area. He rode the highs and lows with the Bengals and Reds and was always willing to talk a little sports. That was probably his favorite thing to do. Talk. Bend your ear. Get a smile from you. It was his signature trait. His stories were legend, especially after a few cheap beers.
He turned a high school trade degree into a 30 year career as an electrician with the I.B.E.W. Local Union 212. Those who worked with him and for him would tell you he was demanding, but always with a sense of humor that garnered respect and admiration.
You could always find Mel working on something, fixing something or building something, even if he wasn’t sure what that something was. When he wasn’t into “something", you could find him enjoying golf, bowling, fishing or a good card game. His taste in music was impeccable, his ability to remember the correct lyrics, not so much. He sacrificed many weekends working, along with Marge to put his kids through school and give his family the best lives we could possibly ask for.
Mel will be remembered as a fun-loving man who worked hard and played hard, cared intensely for his family and fought for everything he had in life, including his life.
Visitation will be at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044, on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 11:30am - 1:00pm. The family will privately retire to the cemetery immediately afterward.
