Mildred Stegman

STEGMAN, Mildred (nee Meyer). Beloved wife of the late Thomas Stegman. Loving mother of Paul (Judy) Stegman, Anna (Nick Rechtin) Stegman, Jeff (Sandi) Stegman and Doug (Lorelei) Stegman. Cherished grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of 12. Dear sister of Grace Sears and the late Robert, Norb, Harry and Marvin. Passed away September 24, 2020 at the age of 95.

Mildred Meyer Stegman grew up with one sister and 4 brothers in a 3 room home in Cincinnati.         She helped her family pay their mortgage during WW II by working after high school. When the war ended, she married WWII veteran, Thomas Stegman, and raised 4 children.  She loved math and studied it in various forms through her life even though she was told “lovingly” by her father that girls did not have the mental capacity to learn math - so she would not waste her time. She took this as a challenge.  She had one of the first home computers and studied programming early.  Each of her 15 grandchildren had the opportunity to play games and learn on her various computers over the years.  She studied astrology and did the star charts of each of her children.  She changed the oil and set the timing in her cars – she had a bigger tool box than most of her family. Sewing and making quilts was her hobby. She returned to school in her 50s and was proud to earn an associate degree in accounting and return to work at several businesses.  She had her own small business doing taxes.

Mildred took time to be involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren never missing a birthday or graduation.  She loved having family together anytime and especially during the holidays.  She was a staunch feminist and was fiercely independent living alone and driving until she died of ovarian cancer at the age of 95. She survived breast cancer at age 82.  She would Zoom with family on her cell phone weekly during COVID 19.  She danced with her grand- daughter on Tic Toc a few weeks before she died.  Mildred was dearly loved by her family and they knew they were loved dearly in return.
